The Benefits of Online Therapy in Texas

Most of my clients start therapy with the intention of staying in person. This is in response to me letting clients know in our first session that we can always do online sessions if it is a challenge to get to the office or they are feeling under the weather. I get it. Honestly, I prefer in-person, especially when we are first getting to know each other.

Most of my sessions consist of couples therapy and I love seeing my client’s body language and how they naturally interact with each other in the beginning. It tells me a lot about how they interact at home (although with online therapy, I typically get to see them in their home!).  Sometimes their words say one thing, but their body language says a completely different story.  However, hear me out. Online therapy has many benefits, especially when you feel supported by your therapist.

Benefits of Online Therapy in League City, TX, and Throughout the State!

Flexibility

Many of my clients work shift work, whether it be from the medical field or plant workers, they often get called in unexpectedly. It can be extremely challenging to be consistent with their weekly therapy sessions. My clients will often send me a text requesting a link for today’s session.

Whether it be from their car during lunch break or a private office, we make it work. I have even had one partner in-person and the other online, while at work. The takeaway that we have learned from Covid is we can make unusual circumstances work and limit disruption in treatment, despite obstacles.

Save on Travel Time

I have clients that drive 30-45 mins to come to sessions.  Sometimes, they don’t feel like battling traffic or they have children's activities that make being away that length of time challenging. Some of my busier clients will end up preferring online sessions over in-person in order to get more accomplished.

Also, I have clients that have moved to another city in Texas due to work. Online therapy in Texas helps us stay on track to meeting our goals and we don’t have to go through a new search to find another therapist.

Uncomfortable with Trying Counseling in Texas

Many people want to try therapy but feel extremely anxious about meeting with a stranger to talk about their problems. I get it. You meet with someone completely new and now you're supposed to divulge your most challenging issues? I feel like online therapy gives these clients the idea they have more control. For example, if they don’t like the session, they could just leave at any moment.

Obviously, you can do that in person, as well. But it feels more intimidating to do that with an actual person in front of you. Basically, online therapy creates a safety bridge for clients to realize, this is actually way better than what I thought.

Easier to Find a Specialist

Sometimes clients are looking for help with specialized issues, including couples therapy, infertility, postpartum depression, infidelity, anxiety, depression, or perfectionism. While many therapists have experience in these areas, they aren’t necessarily an expert or have specific training in the exact area you are looking for.

If you’ve searched for someone close by but haven’t found the best fit yet (read more about this process here), online therapy allows you to work with any therapist in the State of Texas (or whichever state you reside in). You can now broaden your search to find the perfect therapist for you, which is pretty cool.

It Works

Of all the things my clients would probably tell you about the benefits of online therapy in League City, TX, my favorite feedback to hear is “it works! Yes, there are clients who are skeptical about being online for something as important as therapy, but for many people, it removes the barrier of social anxiety and general discomfort being in a new setting.

Many of my clients try it once or need to switch to a virtual session out of necessity and end up staying online clients for the rest of our work together. Research has repeatedly shown that online therapy is equally as effective as in-person therapy, which again means it works. As long as you have a good relationship and trust in your therapist, no matter which way you engage in therapy, you’ll have a good outcome.

My challenge to you is this.  No matter how you get there, get there! Trying new things can be scary but when it comes to your mental health, this fear is worth overcoming!
